We have an exciting opportunity available in our team for a Vehicle Service Coordinator (Diesel Mechanic) to support our Fleet Management team at Melbourne Airport. 

 

What does a typical day look like?

 

You will be responsible for ensuring our large fleet (of specialised trucks) are well maintained to a road worthy standard and repairs or parts are identified and completed in an efficient and safe manner. The position will be responsible for ensuring minimal downtime of fleet and the regular reporting of mechanical diagnosis/updates.  

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Inspecting and test driving vehicles to diagnose malfunctions to ensure that they are working safely and properly
  • Inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition
  • Troubleshooting fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems, using electronic diagnostics
  • Tune engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning
  • Repair, replace, or adjust defective parts
  • Scheduled Routine maintenance
  • Install or repair air conditioners and service components, such as compressors, condensers, and controls
  • Manage and control spare parts as well as updating the vehicle maintenance system
  • Co-ordinate services and repairs performed by contractors / service providers in consultation with operations to minimise impact on the business
  • On-Call after hours to attend or provide support for breakdowns

What do you need to be successful in securing this role?

  • Demonstrated success in a similar role, preferably on Diesel Vehicles
  • Mechanical Trade Qualifications
  • Heavy Rigid License, or ability to obtain one
  • Proven Diagnostic skills
  • Electrical and PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controller) knowledge is essential
  • Good written and verbal skills and computer proficiency (MS Excel and Word)
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and OT as needed to fulfil requirements of the role
  • As you will be working in the Aviation industry, a mandatory Police Check clearance must be undertaken (at our cost).
