We have an exciting multi-faceted role that marries the best of both worlds from Food Safety & Compliance to Health, Safety and Environmental monitoring for our dynamic Airline catering business based in Cairns. This role is dually responsible for maintaining compliance, audit functions and reporting across both key areas of our business. Who are we? You will be responsible for the entire framework and function of both Food Safety and HSE as it pertains to our daily operations within our Cairns Airport facility. The role will be hands on and requires a diligent individual who can walk the floor, communicate, liaise and train staff on all aspects of hygiene, food handling, HACCP, hazard identification and key WH&S techniques, guidelines and responsibilities. This role will manage all audits (internal & external) and reporting for compliance purposes for the Cairns unit and support the Unit Manager with achieving the set goals as outlined by the national GMs of both Quality Assurance and HSE. In a nutshell, your main responsibilities include but not limited to: Food Safety & Compliance - Conduct ad hoc and scheduled internal Food Safety/ HACCP and supplier audits
- Record all findings from Compliance audits, report back to the GM Quality Assurance, Unit Manager and relevant Team Leaders with the results, ensuring agreed actions and remedies are documented/ delivered to address findings.
- Assist in conducting relevant sections of the induction process, to ensure all staff are inducted in accordance with Company and legislative requirements.
- Provide specialist Food Safety/ HACCP, Halal advice to external/internal stakeholders.
- Investigate, report, and analyse customer complaints, including food poisoning allegations and other safety investigations and supplier non-conformances.
- Maintain current knowledge of all State and Federal Food Safety legislations (Acts, Regulations, and Compliance Codes etc) by accessing regular updates, attending any relevant industry seminars and networking
- Report and identify areas of improvement or performance gaps so dnata catering is not exposed to any financial of operational risks associated with non-compliance in Food Safety/ HACCP, Halal and Environmental matters
- Coordinate microbiological testing program and analysis of results.
- Provide advice, support and in-depth hands-on training to develop skills and team confidence to effectively manage Food Safety/ HACCP and risk prevention
Health Safety & Environmental - Proactively promote a ‘Safety First’ culture, leading by example.
- Ensure that signs and helpful tips are visible throughout the site to prompt staff on proper practices and procedures.
- Assist with identifying and delivering safety and environmental improvement plans.
- Assist in the identification, mitigation and investigation of safety and environmental hazards and incidents. Report in accordance with relevant health safety and environment Standards and Legislation.
- Assist in the effective monitoring of health safety and environmental performance, including working with external auditors and undertaking internal audits, safety inspections to ensure legal compliance, best practice and continual improvement.
- Support the induction of new staff by providing induction training covering safety, environment and security.
- Maintain accurate records, database and the prompt reporting of HSE hazards.
- In conjunction with our national Standards and Training dept ensure all staff are up to date with key training and refresher courses pertaining to HS&E matters.
- Support first responders in triaging injured employees and ensure appropriate medical treatment is coordinated and available, as well as, attending initial doctors’ consultations with injured workers.
- Coordinating communication with rehabilitation provider, the insurer and the business
- Support the development and maintenance of return to work plans appropriate to an injured employee’s capacity and available duties.
- Prepare monthly reports for leadership on any current or new injuries and illnesses.
What do you need to be successful in securing this role? - Formal qualifications in either Microbiology, Food Safety & Tech or HS&E is essential.
- Demonstrated success in a similar role for either field or both highly desirable
- Exposure to a fast paced, ideally large commercial or factory setting.
- Ability to work effectively solo and within a team.
- Understanding of State applicable Health, Safety & Environment Legislation and Workers’ compensation schemes or Food Health and Safety guidelines
- Competent in documentation and records management using Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- As you will be working in the Aviation Services industry, you will be required to obtain a clear National Police Check.
